The Wilket Creek Trail |
The entrance to the trail from Edwards Gardens |
The Wilket Creek Trail spans from Edwards Gardens at one
end, and Sunnybrook Park at the other, making it a great trail to walk for any
visitors to either park. Although arguably overlooked by its well known
neighbours, the Wilket Creek Trail also has much to offer in terms of scenery.
The trail follows along Wilket Creek, which provides
visitors with many opportunities to sit along the banks of the creek and admire
the natural environment of the forest surrounding the trail. The mature forest
along the trail is home to a variety of animals, including several species of
birds, as well as many native plants.
Occasional patches of ice and mud |
When we visited the trail on a late weekday afternoon in
March, a few families were walking along the trail, but the path was not
crowded. However, in the warmer weather, more visitors are expected, especially
those travelling from Edwards Gardens or Sunnybrook Park. The surface of the
trail was well maintained asphalt; however, due to runoff from snow, we came
across a few patches of ice and mud.
Wilket Creek |
The trail included several benches and a few alternate paths
which were not paved, but were cleared of trees and other vegetation. Because the
trail roughly follows the route that Leslie Street takes, the sound of the cars
passing across the road occasionally can be heard.
This trail is particularly suited for walkers who are looking for an easy trail experience in a natural forest setting. If visiting Wilket Creek Trail, don’t pass the opportunity to also visit Sunnybrook Park and Edwards Gardens.
